The Calathea Zebrina gets its name from the distinctive zebra-like, stripes on its large, arrow-shaped, velvety leaves. These plants have been cultivated for centuries, prized for their ornamental value and their ability to thrive in indoor environments. This plant comes in a 1cm black nursery pot and fits any one of our Small size pots.
Care Tips:
- Light: While the Calathea zebrina prefers bright, indirect light, it can tolerate low-light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Water once a week in winter and twice a week in summer. Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Use lukewarm water to avoid shocking the roots.
- Humidity: This plant thrives in high humidity. Mist the leaves regularly.
- Temperature: Maintain a warm temperature between 18-30°C. Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
- Fertilizer: Feed your Calathea zebrina with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer).
Informative Things to Look Out For:
- Yellowing Leaves: This could indicate overwatering or underwatering. Adjust your watering schedule accordingly.
- Brown Leaf Tips: This might be a sign of low humidity or underwatering. Increase humidity or water more frequently.
- Drooping leaves: Whats nice about this plant is it tells you if it is not receiving sufficient water when its leaves start to look droopy.
